People might know The Scottish Ferret Club from getting invited to shows, fairs and other events but what a lot of people don't know is that we also attend race nights for a fee. These are great fun and an even better way to raise money for any cause. In the past at well organised events we've helped raise thousands of pounds for different charities. The night starts by the ferrets being introduced and then "auctioned" prior to each race. Next bets are taken on the ferrets, just like you would at any horse or dog racing event. The ferrets are now loaded into their starting box. Now onto the really exciting bit...
The one important rule is that the whole ferret (tail included) must leave the tube. Get ready to cheer on your favourite. 3!... 2!... 1!... Go!... The box opens. Will they come straight out or will get to the end of the tube and hesitate then reverse all the way back to the box? Will they come out head first or tail first? The fun is anything happen! The ferret might fall asleep inside the starting box and not come out at all.
Our main requirement is a room separate from the public for the ferrets to rest in undisturbed. Our fee is mainly to cover our volunteers traveling expenses. To make the event run smoothly we need at least 6 volunteers. This ensures there is enough people to allow the crowd handle the ferrets, run races, answer any questions and supply enough ferrets (some members can manage the last part on their own (yous know who you are 😂😉)). It is the organisers responsibility to arrange betting and a compare. We will be able to pass all the ferret information on in advance.
